I had to fight a robot spider boss and the game spawned 3 of them at the same time ? I was cruising through this dungeon feeling pretty invincible. Even after I kill all the attackers I can’t speak to him and end that part of the quest he stays ducked on the ground waving his arms around for no reason. I’m supposed to rescue a guy being attacked.
One of my side quests can’t be completed. I think any number of things can cause this game to have problems.
It’s not really hard at all so just making navigation and traversal easier I think would improve the game without sacrificing anything If the game was more streamlined I think that would go a long way. A better map solution, being able to have multiple quests active. When it’s good it’s fine but it’s hard to play for long stretches as it’s very much a slog of a game at times. So it has something about it.ĭon’t feel strongly about it either way. Once the enemies of the area have been out-levelled it does become very dumb and tiring, though.īut I keep playing it. I also wouldn’t say the gameplay is dumb, because there is some thinking in tough battles. I still love the look of the world, the really grungy cyber-punk. Especially now I’ve reached the 2nd tier and want to return to the 1st tier. It’s very one note and repetitive, I’ve stopped paying attention to what the game is about and started buttoning through any kind of text or cutscene, and I feel like this game could do with some quality of life stuff. I’ve now reached the second tier (I was right progression is about ascending upward) Only seen very little but seems like a cool game so far. There was one song in the sound track that gave real Deus Ex: Human Revolution vibes as well which is a big bonus for me I love that style of music in these dystopian future settings. Maybe you’re supposed to feel a bit lost. It feels like it could really do with one but maybe the lack of one adds to the feeling of being so small in this large, detailed, busy, oppressive world. The only thing I’m not sure about is the lack of map. I’ve only played about an hour and am so tired am struggling to keep going for the minute. I’m choosing to believe it’s because the game was made by 11 people or something and it’s more programming then limitations.

It’s also a bit frame-y or something on Series X? Not enough to get in the way but not quite as smooth as I would think for a twin stick shooter. From backgrounds, to assets, to NPC’s, trash all over the floor.
Not only is the world hyper detailed but it’s so dense as well. The visual design to this game is amazing.

No it’s actually a full on single player game with RPG systems. Being a twin stick shooter and called Ascent I thought it was going to be a arcade style rogue lite where you start on floor 1 and ascend. I played up to the first town. First reaction from me is surprise. Should be a good co-op game, as it seems to have just the right amount of challenge to it. It's not the best writing i've ever seen in a video game. Story seems ok, your an indent (someone who's payed a substantial amount of money to travel to a planet and now has to work it off) to a large corporation that's suddenly gone bankrupt and all hell is breaking loose.

I've just got to a point where i'm starting to unlock some of the meatier weapons such as a riot gun and a homing rocket launcher and there's a neat system in place where you can upgrade your rank with that weapon and it'll always be that rank, even if you sell it. You have augmentations which let you chop and change rechargeable abilities (I currently have a ground pound unlocked) and a grenade slot as well. Gameplay wise, it's kind of what you'd expect - point gun with the right thumb-stick, shoot with the trigger, move backwards a lot and don't die. It's absolute overkill and hard to believe this game was made by 12 people. Believe the hype when it comes to the graphics on this thing as they look astounding on screen. So, a few hours in on this and it's good.
